Pastel Program At Next SCAN Meeting

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Angalee DeForest of Holmes, N.Y., demonstrating in pastel at a its meeting. Her subject will be a landscape.

Ms DeForest’s program will be on Wednesday, April 12, at 7:30 pm. The demonstration is open to the public and will be at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown. Admission is free.

A professional artist for over thirty years, Angalee DeForest studied fine art at the University of Texas in Austin, and independently with nationally known artists throughout the United States. Born in Louisiana, she grew up in Texas, Oklahoma and Venezuela.

Ms DeForest taught painting and figurative sculpture at the Eastern Shore Art Association Academy in Fairhope, Ala., for four years. She further studied and taught while living and traveling in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California. Her time there resulted in a broad new body of work reflecting further professional growth and greater exploration of both oil and pastel.

Since moving East, she continues to find new inspirations in the vast beauty and cultural diversity of the Empire State, the Hudson River Valley, and New England.

Her work has received extensive awards and consistent acceptance in national juried exhibitions, and is included in numerous collections, among them the United States Marine Corps Security Guard Headquarters, Quantico, Va., and Lombardi, Loper & Conant, LLP, in Oakland, Calif.

Her strong, impressionistic painting and insightful sculpture is firmly based on a foundation of sound classical training, excellent design and keen observation. Her meditative, yet enthusiastic approach reflects in both her work and her teaching.
