Boys’ Volleyball Team Opens Against Nonconference Opponents

Newtown High School’s boys’ volleyball team opened the season with a match against visiting nonconference foe Trumbull of the FCIAC on April 4.

The Nighthawks lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17). Newtown fell behind early on before seizing a lead in game one but could not overcome the Eagles.

Matt Mattera had an ace, three kills, one block, and 21 assists; Thad Teraszkiewicz had two aces, 14 kills, and eight digs; and Nico Diaz logged five kills, ten digs, and two assists.

The Nighthawks went on the road to face another out-of-conference team, Cheshire of the Southern Connecticut Conference, the next night. The Nighthawks fell to the Rams 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21).

Mattera recorded one kill to go along with15 assists. Teraszkiewicz had one ace, eight kills, and nine digs, and Diaz recorded four kills and seven digs.
