John S. Ruggio, 76, of Stratford, beloved husband of Carol A. Carrafiello, died April 1, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bridgeport, December 2, 1934, he was the son of Catherine and Albert Ruggio.

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his three daughters and their husbands, including Karen and Chris Grosso of Newtown; his eight beloved grandchildren; a brother, Robert; his dear mother-in-law; sisters and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends, who will all miss him dearly. His parents and brother, Albert, predeceased him.

Mr Ruggio was a proud veteran of the US Navy. He was a retired metallurgist and sales manager with Bridgeport Brass Co., vice president of sales of Seymour Specialty Wire Co., and most recently sales consultant for The Wheeler Corporation.

He was a loyal parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr Ruggio was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the Yankees. It brought him great joy to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events. He and his family loved to travel and spent many summer vacations in Cape Cod together. He was devoted to his family.

Funeral services took place April 4. Interment with military honors was in Mountain Grove Cemetery of Easton.

Mr Ruggio had the honor of riding on a relay guide boat for Swim Across the Sound two years in a row, so memorial donations to St Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound c/o St Vincent’s Medical Foundation, 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport CT 06606 or give.stvincents.org, would be greatly appreciated.
