Tennis Squads Split With Masuk

Newtown High School's tennis teams took on Masuk of Monroe on April 5; matches were bumped up a day due to April 6 rain. The girls prevailed in a 5-2 victory at home, and the boys lost a 4-3 nail-biter at Wolfe Park in Monroe.

Nighthawk freshman and top singles player Willow Assante LaBash won 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2 singles player Madi Singlak came out on top 6-4, 6-3.

Masuk won at second and third singles. In doubles competition, the top tandem of Amelia Hufschmied and Kristen Reisert came out on top 6-2, 6-1, the No. 2 tandem of Olivia Guizzo and Caitling Briggs won 6-4, 6-3, and the No. 3 team of Erin Marshall and Margaret Donovan won 6-0, 6-1.

On the boys' courts, No. 4 singles player Orion Bracksieck won a hard-fought match 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.

The No. 2 doubles team of Michael Berry and Oliver Clancy won 6-1, 6-2, and the No. 3 duo of Ethan Hillefeld and Theo Anderson won 6-2, 6-2. No. 2 singles player Josh Parsons was very competitive in a 6-7, 5-7 loss, No. 3 singles player Ben Ochs pushed his opponent to three sets but fell 2-6, 6-2, 4-6. The top doubles tandem of Andrew Sposato and Alex Kyprianou fell 6-4, 2-6, 5-10.
