A New Book Group: Spirit Seekers

WASHINGTON — The First Congregational Church of Washington will begin hosting a monthly book discussion group focused on books related to faith and spirituality. The group is open to the public. It will meet Wednesday evenings beginning at 7:30 pm in the church parish house. Admission is free.

The group will be facilitated by Pastor Cheryl Anderson and Martha Fairbairn. At the first meeting, scheduled for April 26, the group will discuss Anne Lamott’s Traveling Mercies. The story is an autobiographical account of one woman’s faith journey. Ms Lamott’s story is full of experiences and reflections that lend themselves to a guaranteed spirited discussion.

Future titles being considered include Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom; Letter To A Man in the Fire, by Reynolds Price; Running To The Mountain, by Jon Katz; For The Time Being, by Annie Dillard; The God We Never Knew, by Marcus Borg; The Good Book, by Peter Gomes; and Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism, by John Shelby Spong. Suggestions of book titles of interest are welcome and encouraged.

First Congregational Church is at 6 Kirby Road. For directions, more information or to register for the group, call the church at 860/868-0569.
