Lose The Litter Day Set For April 30
Lose The Litter Day Set For April 30
The Newtown Lions Club will sponsor Newtownâs annual Lose the Litter Day on April 30, from 9 am to 1 pm, with a rain date of May 7.
Residents of Newtown will band together to clean up roadsides in town. Volunteers may pick up bags and gloves at the Newtown Middle School from 9 am to 1 pm on the day of the event, although the actual clean-up may be done at any time during the day. Volunteers may select a particular road or they may be assigned a road on the day of the event. Participants who find one of the coveted âgolden cansâ will win tickets to the movies at the Edmond Town Hall. The litter collected by participants may be dropped off at the nearest firehouse.
The Highway Department will pick up the accumulated trash and haul it away.
This is Newtownâs tenth Lose the Litter Day. The project was started by Judy Holmes and the Newtown Environmental Action Team, which ran the program for the first six years. The Newtown Lions have continued the project in recent years.
In the past, the project has drawn wide support from town residents, and as many as 175 volunteers have turned out to give the townâs roadsides a thorough spring cleaning. Anyone interested in more information or in volunteering for a particular road may call the project chairman, Jerome Mayer, at 426-9282.
