Newtown To Host CWU Connecticut Spring Assembly

Dimples Armstrong of New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury will be the keynote speaker on Saturday, April 18, when the Church Women United in Connecticut Spring Assembly is offered at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.

“A Closer Walk With Thee” is the theme for the day, and the public is invited.

Activities will begin with registration at 9:30 followed by a worship service at 10. The Candlewood Children’s Choir will be singing. Lunch will be served following the speakers.

Ms Armstrong, a state and nationally awarded activist, will be speak on “Just a Closer Walk with Thee: One Person’s Perspective,” followed by Ray Bechard, founder and president of Ahava Kids, who will speak on “Human Trafficking in America — The Girl is the New Drug.” Djamillah Samad, executive manager of CWU in New York, will speak on “Meeting CWU Again, for the First Time.”

Church Women United is an ecumenical movement begun during World War II to foster peace and betterment of conditions facing women and children all over the world. Each state board of CWU is made up of representatives from local units across the state and is a part of a national and worldwide affiliation with a representative in Washington, D.C.
