Snapshot: Chad Goodhue

Family: My wife Karan; one daughter, Nicole Peralta, who is an RN at Yale, in the Neuro Ortho Trauma Department, and I’m very proud of her; and a stepson, Marc Giannaviola, who is a photographer in New York City. He works for a world famous photographer also based in New York City, and he gets to travel with her when he’s not doing his own work. We’re also very proud of him. I also have three grandchildren, Caleb, 10; Desmond, 5; and Sienna, 4.

Pets: We have two Schnauzers, Piper and Thistle.

How long have you lived in Newtown? 12 years.

Career: I own a fire and water damage restoration company, New England Restoration. We do water damage, fire damage, and mold remediation for the State of Connecticut. I’m also an insurance consultant for a couple of companies in the tri-state area.

Are you part of any local organizations? I’m a trustee with Newtown United Methodist Church and on the board of Wesley Learning Center. I was married here (NUMC), and I bagpiped for my wedding. I’m also a member of Leaps of Faith, where I’m a board member. We get disabled and blind children and adults on skis, on the water in the summer and on skis in the winter. I’m a boat driver, and it’s very rewarding. These folks have difficult lives and we give them a break from that. They ski three or four times a day, and we serve them lunch. It’s a good organization. We started in Sandy Hook and we’re right in Southbury now.

What do you like to do with your free time? I play hockey year-round, in Danbury. I barefoot water ski in the summer on Lake Zoar; we have a ski boat down at Eichler’s. I race men’s downhill in the winter, around New England. I play the bagpipes. I also fly fish, and I started golfing a few years ago. I just joined Newtown Country Club.

Favorite author? Vince Flynn

What is the most recent book you’ve read? Horse Soldiers

Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life? My father, who just passed away a month ago. He was a Navy fighter pilot instructor, and he played the trumpet his whole life, up until a year ago. He passed at 87, but he was in six bands out in Phoenix. He was also an airline pilot.

If you could spend the day with one person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My father.

What is the most recent movie you have seen in the theater? I took my grandson to The Demon Slayer.

Favorite actor? Harrison Ford. You can’t go wrong with him.

Favorite movie genre? Action

Favorite musical genre? Bagpipes. I truly enjoy listening to them. I know people can get tired of hearing them, song after song, but I really enjoy it. I learned the bagpipes to play at my wedding. I’d never played them before that.

Do you have a favorite music performer? Kenny Chesney.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? Try not to make decisions when you’re upset.

Pet peeves? Mistakes that happen over and over.

Favorite color? Green

What is something you cannot live without? My family.

What is your proudest accomplishment? My daughter becoming an RN.

What is your favorite travel destination? Turks and Caicos.

What is your favorite part about Newtown? The people.

What would you like to see covered in The Newtown Bee? I’m concerned about the growth. It seems like there’s too much growth. I’d like to see The Bee cover that more.

Do you have a personal credo? Treat others as I would like to be treated.
