Dinner Meeting Open To The Public
SOUTHBURY â The Lillinonah Audubon Society will hold its annual dinner meeting on Thursday, April 27, beginning at 6 pm at the Thatcherâs Restaurant. The social hour will be followed by dinner, after which Jenny Dickson will present the latest update on efforts to restore bluebirds to the state of Connecticut.
Jenny Dickson is a wildlife biologist employed by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protectionâs Wildlife Division. She is currently working with the Departmentâs Nonharvested Wildlife program, where one of her specialties is songbird conservation and research. She has worked on the bluebird restoration project since 1990.
The bluebird, once a frequently seen Connecticut resident, all but disappeared during the 1970s and 80s, a victim of pesticides and other environmental factors. Since then there has been a concerted statewide effort to lure these colorful little birds back.
Ms Dickson has been providing advice to a wide variety of people in the state on the best ways and means of attracting bluebirds, and she will report to the meeting on the progress that is being made.
The public is welcome to attend the dinner and program. Reservations should be made with the Audubon group as soon as possible. For further information, including directions to the restaurant, call Mary K. Harmon at 264-4124.
