Childrenâs Programs
There will be no scheduled story hours April 18, 19, or 20. The childrenâs staff will be attending the Connecticut Library Associationâs annual conference. Classes will resume the following week. Please note that the library will be closed all day, Friday, April 21, and Sunday, April 23. We will be open Saturday, April 22, from 10-5.
The Friends of the Library are currently accepting donations for their Labor Day Book Sale. Please leave your books on the cart on the first floor. Good news for those of you with CD players in your cars and faced with a long commute each morning. There is a wonderful new collection of âBooks on CDâ available at the library through a generous donation from the Friends of the Library. With close to 50 new titles thereâs bound to be something you havenât read yet. Please come check them out.

Adult Programs
The Civil War Lecture Series will be continuing on Tuesday, April 18, at 7:00 pm, in the meeting room. Bill Barrante, the popular Civil War expert, will share his knowledge on Stonewall Jackson, a Confederate General, known for his strange combination of fearlessness in battle and religious fanaticism. Please join us for what promises to be a very worthwhile talk. On Tuesday, April 25, the topic will be âBattle of Cold Harbor;â on Wednesday, May 3, it will be a philosophical discussion on the American Civil War â âThe Right of Secession and the âLost Cause.ââ All talks will begin at 7 pm in the meeting room of the library. Please sign up at the circulation desk. All talks are free and refreshments will be served.
A new movie series will be starting on Friday, April 14, at 12:30 pm, celebrating âMovie Musicals of the 40s and 50s.â The first movie in the series will be Easter Parade (1948). This delightful Irving Berlin musical is about Fred Astaire trying to forget his ex-dance partner, Miller, while rising to stardom with Garland.
The Friends of the Library are sponsoring an exciting new book discussion series. The next book to be discussed in the series will be One Flew Over the Cuckooâs Nest by Ken Kesey on April 18 at 7:30 pm. Please call the library if youâd like to join in this discussion. You need not read the entire book to attend. You can come to one discussion or all four.
Bob Brand will be offering more Internet classes in April. A beginners class will take place on Saturday, April 15, from 10 am to noon. Please register ahead at the circulation desk. An intermediate class will be held on Saturday, April 22, also from 10 am to noon. A $10 supply fee is charged for this course, and pre-registration is a must. The primary focus will be search engines and how to find stuff on the Web. Also, come find out about Ping.
