Fathers’ Night At NYS

As part of its monthly Fathers’ Night program, Newtown Youth Services will host the next session with Jeff Steinberg, MS, LMFT, on Monday, April 17, from 7:30 to 9 pm. This month’s topics will be “How to Deal with Different Parenting Styles Between spouses” and “How to Deal with Kids’ Lying.”

Whether negotiating rules between two households after divorce, or negotiating day-to-day parenting issues between married spouses, consistency and clear communication are important; otherwise, kids are very adept at “divide and conquer.”

The second issue to be covered, kids’ lying, can be a serious problem, whether in young children or in teenagers. The session will cover how to tell if your child is lying, what consequences are appropriate and effective for lying, and why some children seem to “lie” more often during particular developmental stages.
