The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) offers scholarships to graduating high school seniors intending to pursue a degree in the visual arts and who meet one of the following criteria: the student is a resident of Newtown; the student has held a current student membership in SCAN for at least two years; and a parent having current membership in SCAN for at least two years.

In addition, applicants must be matriculated at an accredited US college or university for the upcoming academic year and intend on maintaining full-time status for the entire year. Awards range from is $300 to $700.

To be considered, students must complete an application form and submit an evaluation from an art teacher on school letterhead. Qualified applicants will be interviewed by a panel of SCAN members and will be asked to present and discuss original artwork consisting of 12 or more pieces.
