Charles “Chuck” Herbert Kinder III, 59, died on April 3 surrounded by love and family at New York Presbyterian Hospital. A native of Sayville, N.Y., and Newtown, and a long-time New Yorker, he was the son of late parents Joan Kinder Hibbard, father Charles Herbert Kinder, Jr, and Dad Robert Hibbard.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi; his brother, Scott, and his wife, Ruth, and children, Brooke & Maxwell, Courtney & Sydney, and Ricardo; sister-in-law, Maxcine Holder; brother, Andrew Hibbard, and his wife, Jenny, and their daughters, Eleanor and Madeleine; his sister, Leslie Arnow, and her husband Ben, their children Liran and Harper; and his cat, Tasha.

Described by anyone who ever knew him as “Larger than Life,” Chuck’s enormous heart touched everyone he knew, and even people he didn’t. This heart and his infectious sense of humor filled every conversation he had and every room he entered. Chuck’s passions were cooking, technology, riding his motorcycle, caring for his cats, being an active member of and sponsor for Alcoholics Anonymous, and being with people — family, friends, neighbors, customers — and keeping everyone connected or keeping them on their toes if they fell out of touch for too long. He was the best brother anyone could ever want!

A small service for family will be held at St Ann’s church in Sayville, N.Y., on April 16 at noon. A live stream will be available for friends on the St Ann’s Church YouTube channel and, for the sake of health and safety, the family encourages all who would like to join the broadcast to take part in the service and celebration of Chuck’s life virtually. A memorial will be planned for a later date.

Raynor & D’Andrea funeral home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chuck’s memory to AA by members (in this case, please provide your name, home group, city, and state when making a contribution) and to Ice Hockey in Harlem, where Chuck was a proud hockey uncle and supporter.
