Foot Care For Seniors At April

Lunch & Learn

It is estimated that in an average lifetime a person walks the equivalent of four times around the world, more mileage than your average automobile. Over time, due to age, circulatory problems can lead to severe foot problems, if not properly cared for. On Tuesday, April 25, Dr Richard Maldin, a podiatrist, will discuss “How to Care for Your Feet” at Ashlar of Newtown’s Lunch and Learn program.

The feet do a lot of work, which is perhaps why they contain so many bones – about one fourth of all the bones in the body – not to mention joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels, all working together to support and balance the body. “You only get one pair of feet, so you had best take care of them,” Dr Maldin says. “As we age, we tend to develop foot problems due to poor circulation or through neglect. When problems develop, too many people try to handle things themselves.”

Dr Maldin will describe the signs to be on the lookout for, and some simple care techniques than can help prevent foot problems. He has practiced podiatry for 30 years and has offices in Fairfield and Newtown.

This program is part of a series of free seminars for mature adults about living and aging well. It takes place from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, with doors opening at noon for lunch at Lockwood Lodge, located at Ashlar of Newtown.
