Fun Facts

With all the focus on Mark McGwire and his home runs, did you know that he is not the best home run hitter of all time? No, neither is Hank Aaron or Babe Ruth. The best home run hitter of all time is Sadaharu Oh of Japan.

Babe Ruth first set the record with 714 career home runs and then Hank Aaron came along and broke that record, eventually setting it at 755. Many people believe either Mark McGwire or Ken Griffey Jr will eventually break Aaron’s record.

But the real record for most home runs in a professional baseball career belongs to Sadaharu Oh, who hit an amazing 868 home runs in a 22-year career in Japan. For 19 consecutive years, Oh hit better than 30 home runs with a personal high of 67 in one season.

Who hit home runs at a faster pace? Was it Ruth or Aaron? Is it McGwire or Griffey Jr?

No, it’s Oh.
