DANBURY â Jean Kilbourne, a writer and filmmaker on controversial issues, will be the guest speaker of the Program Activities Council and the Womenâs Study Committee at Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday, April 25. Ms Kilbourne will speak in the Student Center Theater, on WCSUâs midtown campus at 181 White Street.
Ms Kilbourne will speak on âWomen and the Mediaâ and discuss how images of women presented in the media have a bearing on womenâs perception by society. Ms Kilbourne, who has a doctorate in education, is known around the world for her groundbreaking work on alcohol and tobacco advertising, and the image of women in advertising.
The Boston resident is also widely known for her prize-winning documentaries, Killing Us Softly: Advertisingâs Image of Women, Slim Hopes, and Pack of Lies.â She is currently a visiting scholar at Wellesley College. She also has been an advisor to two US Surgeons General.
