The C.H. Booth Library will be closed on Friday, April 21, Good Friday, and Sunday, April 23, for Easter. The library will be open on Saturday, April 22, from 10 am to 5 pm.

The Friends of the Library are currently accepting donations for their Labor Day Book Sale. Please leave your books on the cart on the first floor.

Good news for those of you with CD players in your cars and faced with a long commute each morning. There is a wonderful new collection of “Books on CD” available at the library through a generous donation from the Friends of the Library. With nearly 50 new titles, there is bound to be something you haven’t read yet. Please come check them out.

Adult Programs

Bob Brand will be offering an intermediate Internet class on Saturday, April 22, from 10 am to noon. A $10 supply fee is charged for this course, and pre-registration is a must. The primary focus will be search engines and how to find stuff on the Web. Also, come find out about Ping.

The Civil War Lecture Series will be continuing on Tuesday, April 25, in the meeting room. Bill Barrante, the popular Civil War expert, will share his knowledge on the Battle of Cold Harbor, “the battle General Grant wished he had never fought.”

On Wednesday, May 3, Mr Barrante will present a philosophical discussion on the American Civil War called “The Right of Secession and the ‘Lost Cause.’” Both talks will begin at 7 pm in the meeting room of the library. Please sign up at the circulation desk. All talks are free and refreshments will be served.

The movie series will be continued on Friday, April 28, at 12:30 pm, celebrating “Movie Musicals of the 40s and 50s.” The next movie in the series will be State Fair (1945), a bright, engaging film of a family’s adventure at the Iowa State Fair.

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring an exciting book discussion series. The next book to be discussed in the series will be The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. The theme will be the Vietnam War, a war that often pitted father against son, on Tuesday, May 9, at 7:30 pm.

Multiple copies of the book are available at the library. Please call the library if you’d like to join in this discussion. You need not read the entire book to attend.

If you have any questions about any of these programs please give the library a call at 426-4533.
