GLASTONBURY – After a couple of shaky performances to start the 2000 season (thanks, in part, to some roster problems), the Nighthawks – in full force – put together a pair of solid games this past week.

One was a victory.

The other was a loss.

But in both instances, the offense flexed its muscles.

Last Friday, the ‘Hawks captured their first win of the season with a 14-5 thrashing of New Fairfield. Sean Raby nailed down five goals, Dan Maley added two, and Bryan Hamilton, Spencer D’Agostino, Matt Saunders, Peter Yemc, Matt Sullivan and Tom Ryan all added solo goals to the effort.

Raby, meanwhile, also added a pair of assists. So did Sullivan, while Yemc had one assist. Tim Hoeffel and Brad Bernstein combined for eight saves as the ‘Hawks out-shot the Rebels, 33-21.

On Monday, while the rest of the Newtown schedule was washed out because of rain, the ‘Hawks made the long trek to Glastonbury to take on the Tomahawks and suffered a 10-6 loss to fall to 1-3 on the season.

D’Agostino and Saunders added two goals apiece while Raby and John Conlon chipped in with one goal each. Conlon added three assists while Raby had two and D’Agostino one. Shawn Gleason and Brad Bernstein combined for 19 saves in the cage.

The ‘Hawks will be hosting St. Joseph’s of Trumbull on Saturday at 11 am and then will travel to Hand of Madison on Tuesday for a battle with the Tigers. The ‘Hawks will return home on Thursday for a 4 pm game against the Danbury Hatters.
