Pack 70 Scouts Race Annual Pinewood Derby

The Cub Scouts from Hawley School’s Pack 70 ran their annual Pinewood Derby Saturday, April 3, at the High School.

Each Scout had worked his pine block into a colorful masterpiece, with designs ranging from sleek formula-style racers to tractor-trailers, from dragons to army tanks. The creation of each car gave the boys valuable lessons in woodworking, tool handling, hand-eye coordination, and the results of hard work. Fathers were allowed to help, but the bulk of the work was to be done by the boys.

And the winners were: First Place, Nicky Wolf; Second Place, Audie Nash; and Third Place, Joseph Ferguson.

Winners by rank were also announced. For Tiger Cubs, they were: First Place, Michael Shannon; Second Place, Eric Johnson; and Third Place, Sean Connoly.

Among Bear Scouts, winners included: First Place, Colin Nanavath; Second Place, Brian Harrington; and Third Place, Fletcher Travis.

For Wolf Scouts, the winners were: First Place, Evan Barreto; Second Place, Ryan Ruiz; and Third Place, Ryan Zithay.

First Year Webelos trophies went to: First Place, Francis Oggeri; Second Place, Stephen Ashbolt; and Third Place, Michael Johnson.

Second Year Webelos winners included: First Place, Sean O’Connell; Second Place, Robert DeFilippe; and Third Place, Adam Nanavaty.
