Robbie Louise Dubroff, age 97, passed away on April 14, 2020, at The Lutheran Home in Southbury. Born in the county of Los Angeles, Robbie was a daughter of the late Rob Roy and Florence Farmer.

She grew up in San Diego, graduated from San Diego High, attended San Diego State College, University of California at Berkeley, and obtained a BA from New York University.

During World War II she worked in San Diego at Solar Aircraft as a welder tacker on the dawn shift, and then was employed at the Richmond ship yards in Berkeley as an arc welder, working the dawn shift on the Liberty Ships to support her education. In the late 1960s and ’70s she worked tirelessly to support the needs of women who were patients in a local mental hospital in Connecticut. This led to her interest in helping others establish a halfway house in the area to support patients who were discharged into the community. In the early ’70s Robbie was on the steering committee of Concerned Citizens of Newtown to protest the war in Vietnam and she participated in numerous protests. She co-founded and managed a food cooperative store in Newtown for ten years.

Always concerned about conservation, she donated a tract of her former property in Newtown to the Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust to provide a safe habitat for wildlife. Robbie was an avid gardener, birder, world traveler, concert and theatre goer, and held a deep appreciation for the preservation of land. She was extremely generous to family, friends, and community.

Robbie is survived by a son and daughter; two grandsons; one granddaughter; as well as two nieces and their family members. She also leaves behind a dear friend who helped care for her in her home. She was predeceased by one brother.

Cremation has taken place. Current pandemic restrictions have made it impossible to arrange a memorial service at this time.
