RWPA Is Going ‘Below The Belt’

RIDGEFIELD — Below The Belt, Richard Dresser’s wickedly funny, dark comedy about three men working in an isolated industrial compound, will continue through May 20 at Ridgefield Workshop for the Performing Arts, 37 Halpin Lane. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, with a special Sunday performance May 14 at 7 p.m.

Trapped in a corporate triangle, the men go to elaborate ends as they struggle with the need for personal connection and the cut-throat drive to get ahead, no matter what the sacrifice. The play originally premiered at the 1995 Humana Festival at Actors’ Theatre of Louisville and was subsequently produced Off-Broadway in 1996 with Judd Hirsch as Hanrahan and Robert Sean Leonard as Dobbitt.

Directed by E. Kyle Minor of Danbury, the show features three established Danbury actors with experience on both sides of the footlights. Brad Bechard is Hanrahan, the veteran quality control “checker”; Bruce Hanson is Dobbitt, the newcomer; and Tom Matson is Merkin, their boss.

The Ridgefield Workshop for the Performing Arts Theatre Barn is at the end of Halpin Lane in Ridgefield, just off Prospect Ridge. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. For reservations and further information, call 203/431-9850, or visit the group’s web site at http://.rwpa.buyroad.com.
