HISTORIC HOMES PRESERVATION WEEK

GUILFORD, CONN. — The Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation announces the Statewide Preservation Conference on Friday, May 19, to celebrate National Preservation Week.

The event will be held at St George Church, 33 Whitfield Street, On the Green, in partnership with Guilford Preservation Alliance and the Connecticut Historical Commission.

The event is sponsored by Middlesex Mutual Assurance Company of Middletown, Conn.

The keynote address will be given by Bob Yapp, host of the PBS television program, About Your House with Bob Yapp. The lecturer will share over 20 years of preservation experience as a renovation contractor, house inspector, historic property developer and planning consultant in his talk “Preservation Doesn’t Cost – It Pays.”

The conference will open at 8:30 am. Other sessions will include discussions on archaeology, cellular towers, historic homes tax credit, Internet resources for preservation, insurance necessities for historic homes, lead paint issues, rural character preservation and scenic roads.

Afternoon workshops include putting preservation to work, preservation planning, The Village Districts Act, commercial development, tear downs, using preservation tools, and Connecticut Historic Homes Rehabilitation Tax Credit/Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
