Adult Programs

The Civil War Lecture Series will be concluding on Wednesday, May 3, with a philosophical discussion on the American Civil War called “The Right of Secession and the ‘Lost Cause.’”  Bill Barrante, a Civil War, expert will be speaking at 7 pm in the Special Collections Room.

The talk is free and refreshments will be served. You need not have attended the previous talks to enjoy this overview of the war.

The movie series will be continuing on Friday, April 28, at 12:30 pm, celebrating “Movie Musicals of the 40s and 50s.” The next movie in the series will be State Fair (1945), a bright, engaging film of one family’s adventure at the Iowa State Fair. The Rodgers and Hammerstein score includes “That’s for Me,” “Grand Night for Singing” and “It Might As Well Be Spring.”

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring an exciting book discussion series. The next book to be discussed in the series will be The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. The theme will be the Vietnam War, a war that often pitted father against son. The series begins on Tuesday, May 9, at 7:30 pm.

Multiple copies of the book are available at the library. Please call the library if you would like to join in this discussion.  You need not read the entire book to attend. You can come to one discussion or all four.

The Flagpole Photographers will be having an exhibit of their members’ works beginning Saturday, April 29.  The show will run through the weekend during regular library hours.  Don’t miss this opportunity to view this beautiful collection of photographs.  The show will be free and is open to the public.

If you have any questions about any of these programs give the library a call at 426-4533.
