Newtown resident Mathew Michael Raino, a student in the School of Business Administration at the University of South Carolina, will be a graduation candidate during the university’s commencement exercises slated for May 5 and 6. Mathew is a finance major, and will be receiving a bachelor or science in business administration degree.

Vanessa L. Raby, daughter of Hanne D. Raby of Sandy Hook and John Raby of East Norwalk, was recently recognized for academic excellence at Roanoke College. Vanessa, a graduate of Newtown High School, was the recipient of the Charles C. Wise Poetry Award, a monetary prize awarded for an original poem judged outstanding by the members of the English department.

Alexandra E. Kline, a member of the Fourth Form at Kent School, was named to the honor roll for the winter term. Alexandra is the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Kline of Newtown.

Sgt Thomas R. Richmond, a resident of Newtown and a member of the Connecticut Army National Guard, recently graduated from the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course at Camp Rowland in Niantic. Sgt Richmond serves as a member of the Guard’s Company C, 143rd Forward Support Company (Medical) in Waterbury.
