Michael John Leonard

Former Assistant Chief Of NUSAR

Michael John Leonard, 41, husband of Jean (Moore) Leonard of Newtown, died April 20 in Danbury Hospital from complications of a motorcycle accident last May. He was born in Ridgewood, N.J., on January 31, 1967, a son of Barbara (Gorham) Leonard of St Petersburg, Fla., and Richard Leonard of Cleveland, Tenn.

Mr Leonard was the owner of Autotech Town Service, LLC of Monroe and was previously employed by Westport Getty from 1988 to 2001.

A resident of Newtown for 11 years, he was assistant chief of the Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include his children, Meghan, Zachery, and Courtney; a sister, Ashley Leonard of Outer Banks, N.C.; his paternal grandfather, N. Miles Leonard of Winchester, Va.; a special uncle, E. Scott Leonard of Drums, Penn.; and an additional uncle and four aunts; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held April 22, in the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, with Rev John Branson officiating. A private cremation followed.
