James Nathaniel Hare passed away on Friday, April 19.

He was born in Greenwich in 1962 to his loving parents William and Martha. James grew up in Newtown, where he and his brother Bill shared a keen interest in the natural world, including bugs, butterflies, fishing, and camping.

James attended King School, Newtown High School, and Dickinson College. He had a successful advertising career at The New York Review of Books, and later in life, wrote prolifically for medical websites.

James was a resource on homeopathic healing, a serious student of transcendental meditation, a skilled handyman, an avid tennis player, an expert mushroom forager, and an engaged uncle who shared simple wonders like kite flying. His happy place was in the forest exploring flora, fauna, streams, and woodlands and sleeping under the stars in his hammock.

James will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will remember him for his kindness, wisdom, and excellent tuna fish and spinach sandwiches.

A private family service will be held in his memory. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting your local library or public radio station.
