Poetry was in the air at C.H. Booth Library’s Poetry Walk reception held on April 11. The event was presented in conjunction with National Poetry Month and the installation of a “Poetry Walk” along the sidewalks of Fairfield Hills Campus. The signs display poems written by local poets. The project is a self-guided tour. Original poems were selected from dozens of entries. During the reception, poets read one or more of their pieces, ranging from haikus to comedic entries to angst ridden pieces about the horrors of war to love poems. Many of the poets have self-published books of their work.

Newtown’s poet laureate, Lauren Clifford, reads one of her recent poems. She is interested in bringing more diverse and inclusive representation to her work including a poem she read about a white family, Native Americans, and slaves in conjunction with her work celebrating the 250th anniversary of America.
Mike Pugh, who goes by the pen name Wolf Printz, is seen next to his poem on the Poetry Walk installation along the Fruit Trail at Fairfield Hills. He has been writing for 20 years and has two self-published books of poetry.
