Less than 8% of Newtown’s registered voters decided the fate of two budget proposals and two bonding requests during a 14-hour period Tuesday, April 26.

All four items passed: a Board of Education budget request of $82 million, a municipal operating budget request of $46 million, underwriting $850,000 for Newtown High School ventilation systems and HVAC renovations, and $600,000 for improvement to Edmond Town Hall’s parking lot.

Of the 18,953 eligible voters, 1,473 voted yesterday — a turnout of about 7.7%.

Further details and responses from local officials will be presented in tomorrow afternoon’s print edition of The Newtown Bee, and updated online.

What was the margin of passage? Are the results in yet?

I remain puzzled by the statements that this represents a 0.07% tax increase. Valuations are going up. We will be paying more taxes.
