Sandy Hook Man Arrested In Real Estate Fraud Â
Chief Stateâs Attorney Christopher L. Morano announced April 21 the arrest of a Sandy Hook man and a New York State woman in an alleged scheme involving condominiums owned by the man and his estranged wife.
Michael Daubert, 40, of 107 Church Hill Road is accused of illegally concealing ownership of condominium units that he owned jointly with his estranged wife prior to their impending divorce, and with improprieties in the management of a condominium association in the Waterbury area, Mr Morano said in a prepared statement.
Mr Daubert formerly worked as a police officer in area towns. He is an alternate member of the Newtown Zoning Board of Appeals. Mr Daubert works as a support services investigator for the Connecticut Judicial Department. Mr Daubert also owns and operates a property management company and a security company, Mr Morano said.
Also charged in the case was Julie Bondi, 42, of Mahopac, N.Y., who is a friend of Mr Daubert, Mr Morano said. Ms Bondi is accused of conspiring with Mr Daubert to impersonate his wife and also with altering the womanâs property management license in dealings with the condo association, according to Mr Morano. Ms Bondi was arrested on multiple charges.
Mr Morano said Mr Daubert was arrested on a warrant by state investigators charging him with eight counts of second degree forgery and one count each of conspiracy to commit second degree forgery and third degree burglary. Mr Daubert was also charged with one count of criminal attempt to commit first degree larceny, one count of conspiracy to commit first degree larceny, and one count of sixth degree larceny.
Mr Morano alleges that Mr Daubert forged the signatures of his wife and his brother on real estate deeds in an attempt to conceal approximately $135,000 in jointly owned property from his wife in anticipation of their 2004 divorce proceedings.
Those deeds were then notarized by Mr Daubertâs personal friend, Mary Ann Naventi, who was a vice president at Wachovia Bank in Newtown. State investigators arrested Ms Naventi in December 2004 on four counts of second degree forgery and four counts of falsely certifying the administration of an oath. Ms Naventiâs case is pending in court.   Â
The arrest warrant against Mr Daubert further alleges that Mr Daubert conspired with Ms Bondi to conceal $67,500 in jointly owned property from Mr Daubertâs wife, among various other allegations.
Mr Daubert and Ms Bondi were arraigned on the charges April 21 in Danbury Superior Court. The case was then transferred to Waterbury Superior Court.
