Thanks to Mary Brigham of Vermont, who grew up in Newtown, and has pointed out that in the postcard featured in the “Way We Were” column of the April 22 issue of The Newtown Bee, it is not likely that the steeple is that of the old St Rose Church. Ms Brigham has worked for many years with the Vermont Historical Society Library, and is experienced in examining old photographs. She suspects that St Rose was not visible from the photographer’s perch. If anyone can identify the steeple, or the location of the Eagle’s Nest from which the photo was taken, in that 1920 postcard of last week, please contact nancy@thebee.com.
