Prison Assault

State police said two Garner Correctional Institution inmates became involved in a fight in a cell on the night of April 26.

Inmate Phillip Leak, 39, allegedly stabbed inmate Miguel Cruz, no age given, with a plastic pen during the altercation, giving Cruz a minor puncture wound, state police said.

 State police said they are investigating the fight, which they expect will result in an assault charge being filed against Leak.

Garner is the state’s high security prison on Nunnawauk Road designed to hold more than 700 imates.
