Quarter Century Campaign Halfway To Goal

DANBURY — At a recent reception celebrating the kick-off of the Women’s Center Quarter Century Campaign, Beth Ann Fetzer of Newtown and attorney Neil R. Marcus of Redding, co-chairs, announced that the capital campaign has raised $500,000 toward its goal of $1,000,000, to be used to enlarge and improve the center’s headquarters at 2 West Street, Danbury.

The Quarter Century Campaign is an all-volunteer effort, appealing to individuals, businesses, and community organizations for help in preparing the Women’s Center facility for its next quarter century of service.

Founded in 1975, the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury provides shelter, counseling, support groups, 24-hour hotlines, and other services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In addition, the Center conducts preventive community education in area schools and training for police, medical personnel, and other professionals who encounter violence in their workplace.

Contributions have been received from the Perrin Family Foundation (for children’s counseling rooms and other improvements that will benefit children), Union Savings Bank, Savings Bank of Danbury, the Alice Lawrence Foundation, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, and The News Times.
