Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden Announces ‘09 Season

BETHLEHEM — The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden will open for the season on May 1. In addition to regular house and garden tours, the museum will feature a season of programming that includes art exhibitions with local artists, nature walks, and the Annual Dog Show.

The property will be open for tours May 1 through October 12. Events will begin this weekend with the annual plant sale and an opening reception for the first art show of the season.

The first event of the season will be a plant sale and exhibition opening on Saturday, May 2, from 10 am to 4 pm. The annual sale features annuals as well as an extensive collection of perennials, trees and shrubs, many of which have been propagated from historic plants in the 1915 Ferriday Garden. Richard Wick of Fifth Season Farm will be on hand to answer questions about organic vegetable gardening. Early bird buying begins at 9 am, and there is a ten percent discount for CTL members.

An opening reception will begin at 2 for a collection of nature themed pencil drawings and watercolor paintings by artist Betsy Rogers-Knox and her students. The exhibit will remain on view all month.

On Saturday, May 30, from 1 to 4 pm, the property will be part of Locally Grown History Day: Bethlehem Stroll. Admission is $5 for guided tours of the Bellamy-Ferriday House, which will be led by members of Old Bethlehem Historical Society.

Members will also offer free tours and brief histories of some of the town’s most important buildings, including District 1 Schoolhouse, First Church of Bethlehem, The Woodward House and the historical society. The event is the kick-off for Locally Grown History Hunt, which will continue through October. For more information visit LocallyGrownHistory.org.

Hours May through August are Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. September and October hours are Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. The museum will be open on Memorial Day, Labor Day and Columbus Day.
