NBLA Holds Membership Meetings

The annual Membership Meeting of the Newtown Bridle Lands Association held on April 21 was attended by more than 50 people.  There were several new faces in the group with attendees from Newtown, Monroe, Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury and Fairfield.

Debra Lee Hovey, State Representative for  Newtown and Monroe, spoke about HR5108 a bill that is currently in the State Legislature allowing horses continued access to trails on many state lands throughout Connecticut. Rep Hovey explained the importance of supporting this bill and  encouraged all horse owners to contact their representatives to support the bill.

Gail Bunovsky presented a new streamlined rope halter and lead which are perfect for trail riders to keep under their bridles while riding. The halters are made by former Connecticut resident, Judy Rose, now living in Montana. NBLA offers the halters for sale along with a line of  NBLA apparel.

Announcements were made regarding of  speakers for future meetings as well as Show and Go rides that are planned for the next few months. Maps of trail areas in Newtown were displayed. A delicious meal was served, many door prizes awarded and everyone enjoyed lots of  conversation about their favorite subject — horses.

The Newtown Bridle Lands Association is a nonprofit volunteer organization formed in 1978. Its goal is to foster an interest in horseback riding as well as preserving, protecting and maintaining riding and hiking trails in the community.

The next open meeting of NBLA will be May 19 at the Meeting House in Newtown. If you would like more information about NBLA, visit nblact.com.
