Danbury Hospital Co-Sponsors National Cancer Survivors Day

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital is partnering with the American Cancer Society and Ann’s Place, The Home of I Can, to sponsor the Third Annual National Cancer Survivors Day on June 4.

This celebration of life for all cancer survivors and their families includes a special event at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury, beginning with breakfast at 9:30 am.

The keynote speaker for the event, developmental psychologist and author Paul E. McGhee, PhD, will discuss “Health, Healing, and the Amuse System,” focusing on the benefit of humor in the healing process and in supporting people who are experiencing cancer in their families.

Dr McGhee is internationally known for his pioneering humor research and has written 11 books on humor. His work has been featured by the Discovery Channel, The New York Times, and in magazines and newspapers throughout the United States and Europe. His entertaining programs are guaranteed to get audiences laughing, but are substantive as well.

Studies have shown that laughter stimulates hormones in the body that help the immune system fight disease and heal. Dr McGhee is at the cutting edge of humor in the healthcare movement, showing both clinical professionals and patients how to use humor to enhance care and cope in the midst of challenges and change.

To register for this event, call either Ann’s Place, The Home of I Can, at 203/790-6568, or the American Cancer Society, 800/889-3340, ext. 227. All area cancer survivors and their families are invited, but seating is limited, so call soon.
