BROOKFIELD – The Newtown High School boys’ track team may be young and inexperienced, but it is learning all about heartbreak.

One week after dropping a nine-point decision to Jonathan Law (which erased the possibility of a season-opening sweep), the Nighthawks suffered an even more wrenching one-point loss to Bunnell in a quad meet Monday at Brookfield High School.

Matt Miller (pole vault) was the only individual winner for the ‘Hawks, but the 4x800 (Dan McIlrath, Phil Zencey, Mike Nastri and Pete Dittmar) and the 4x400 (Evan Forstrom, George Schork, John Collins and Peter Terrance) relay teams earned first-place finishes.

A 1-2 finish on Monday (which included a loss to Pomperaug and a comfortable win over Brookfield) put the ‘Hawks at 3-3 for the season. The ‘Hawks will host Masuk and Joel Barlow on Monday at Blue & Gold Stadium.
