Children’s Programs

*Mother’s Day Craft Workshop: There are still spaces available in the Mother’s Day Craft workshop with Marie Walker this Saturday, May 3, at 1 pm. Children must be at least 6 years of age to attend. A $2 material fee is due upon registration.

*Harry Potter Midnight Madness: Young adults, ages 10 and older (or entering grade five in the fall), can sign up now to purchase a copy of the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which will be distributed at our Harry Potter Midnight Madness party on Friday, June 20. Parents are required to sign up their own children in person at the library. Books are $20 each.

Copies of the new book will be available at the stroke of midnight if you have pre-ordered your copy. You do not have to purchase a book to attend the party, but you do have to attend the party if you want to purchase the book.

The deadline to order a copy of the book has been extended to June 7. So, if you can’t wait, sign up for an evening of magic, food and fun. Character costumes are encouraged.

*Young Adult Stamping workshop: Young adults in grades 5-8 are invited to attend a stamp art workshop conducted by Barbara Shohet on Monday, May 5, from 4 to 6 pm, in the library’s board room. Barbara will provide all of the supplies and give instruction on how to make professional looking greeting cards, stationery, gift boxes and more. Sign up at the library or call to register. A $5 material fee is due the day of the workshop. No younger siblings, please.

*Author Visit and Book Signing: Meet author Laurie Krebs on Saturday, May 31, when she visits Booth Library for a program at 2 pm. Krebs, who was a schoolteacher for twenty years, loves to travel. Her latest book, We All Went on Safari: A Counting Journey Through Tanzania, is a result of her visit to Africa. Copies of the book will be available for purchase following the program.

Adult Programs

*The Agnes de Mille program scheduled for May 16 has been postponed. Watch for the new date which will take place some time in September.

*This Month’s Book Discussion Groups: The Nonfiction Book Group will meet to discuss April Morning by Howard Fast on Tuesday, May 6, at 1 pm; The Daytime Book Group will discuss The Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro on Monday, May 12, at 1 pm; The Evening Book Discussion Group will be talking about Best of Times: America in the Age of Clinton by Haynes Johnson on Thursday, May 15, at 7:30 pm; and on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 pm, the Mystery Group will get together to discuss Chalon Heads by Barry Maitland.

All of the discussions are open to the public and new members are welcome.

*Job-Hunting Strategies for a Jobless Recovery: Janice Weinberg of Career Solutions of Westport and the author of How to Win the Job You Really Want will give a talk on Tuesday, May 13, at 1 pm. The program is free, but reservations are requested.

Call the library at 426-4533 to register for any of its programs or for additional information. The library’s winter hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm, Friday from noon to 5 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
