BROOKLYN’S SLATE GALLERY TO PRESENT LIGHTING DESIGN, FABRIC MAY 18

avv/gs 5-2 #698672

NEW YORK CITY — Elizabeth Polish and Le Studio Anthost Designs will be on view at Slate Gallery, May 18–June 18. The designers will be present at an opening reception on Saturday, May 19, from 5 to 8 pm. The exhibition features lighting designs by interior designer Elizabeth Polish and fabric atelier Le Studio Anthost.

The collection of eight lamps marry couture fabric techniques with structural elements from industrial design and architecture. The draped, ruffled, pleated or stretched shades feature surface applications on materials that Le Studio Anthost uses for its fashion clients: hand-pressed silver on tulle, sponge stamping on cotton and chiffon and airbrushing on organza.

The patterns created on the fabric appear as delicate as lace and at the same time, pixilated — an industrial yet romantic effect.

The collection consists of floor and table lamps, suspended ceiling fixtures and wall lights. The circular ceiling fixture is constructed of three layers of clear plastic strips painted with images of tree branches that play with fields of light, silhouette and depth.

In addition to their collaborative work at Slate Gallery, Polish will exhibit some of her earlier designs.

Designer Elizabeth Polish works for Armani/Casa Interior Design Studio. She holds a Masters in Interior Design from Pratt Institute, and she also studies at Milan’s Domus Academy.

Le Studio Anthost is one of the few ateliers in the world that produces hand printed and painted fabrics using traditional couturier and sophisticated new techniques.

The gallery is at 136 Wythe Avenue. For more information, www.slategallery.com or 718-387-3921.
