Artists’ Day Planned

At Flanders Nature Center

WOODBURY — Flanders Nature Center will hold its 4th Artists’ Day on Saturday, May 17, when artists are invited to work outdoors in the inspiring surroundings of the Flanders Van Vleck nature sanctuary.

Participants are welcome all day, with light refreshments, a map of the center and check-in available at the Flanders Sugar House from 9 am to 2 pm. Artists of all levels and in all media, including as drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture are invited to participate. Rain date is Sunday, May 18.

Artists will have several weeks during which to create or finish work before the Flanders Artists’ Day exhibit on Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, from 10 am to 4 pm each day, in the spacious post and beam Sugar House on Flanders’ Van Vleck property. An artists’ reception is planned for Sunday, June 8, from 2 to 4 pm. The exhibit will then move to the Gloria Cachion Gallery at the Southbury Public Library, where it will be on view June 10-29.

Artists are also welcome to draw inspiration or work at the Van Vleck property at any time between Artists’ Day and the exhibit. Previous Artists’ Days have drawn more than 30 artists.

Registration ahead of time is encouraged, but not required, by calling Flanders Nature Center at 263-3711. There is an $8 fee to hang work in the exhibit. Further information is available by calling Artists’ Day Coordinators Joan Anthony, 263-3201, or Melody Asbury at 263-4970.

Flanders Nature Center is on Flanders Road, at the intersection with Church Hill Road, three miles north of Route 6 in Woodbury. For Artists’ Day participants are asked to check-in at the Sugar House which is on Church Hill Road, one-quarter mile from Flanders Road, to register and for information on Artists’ Day and the planned exhibit.
