Jazzing Up The Garden

With Color And Contrast

The Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown will host its next meeting and public program on Wednesday, May 14, at 7 pm, at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. Author and landscape designer Karen Bussolini will present a program titled “Jazzing Up the Garden with Color and Contrast.”

Ms Bussolini has written a book with Jo Ann Gardner entitled Elegant Silvers: Plants for Every Garden. The ladies have selected and vividly illustrated the best candidates for a broad range of growing and design needs, which will be part of her talk.

Ms Bussolini has been a gardener for as long as she can remember. She originally trained as a painter and had a career as an architectural photographer before specializing is garden photography, writing, and lecturing. She is an experienced lecturer on horticulture and design, and recently finished photographing a new book, entitled The Homeowners Complete and Tree and Shrub Handbook.

The list of Ms Bussolini’s accomplishments cover most aspects of gardening and garden design including containers, espalier, hardscape, herbs, landscaping, native plants and topiary.

The program is free and open to the public.

Planning For A Plant Sale

The Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown is also planning for its 11th Annual Plant Sale, which will take place on Saturday, May 10, from 10 am to 2 pm, in front of the Inn at Newtown, 19 Main Street.

The Plant Sale Committee recently visited Planter’s Choice Nursery, where they selected some of the plant material that will be offered for sale this weekend, including perennials, bushes, vines, and small trees.

The event will offer opportunities for those looking for Mother’s Day gifts or just something for their own garden.
