Youth Soccer Teams Battle On The Pitch

U14 Girls

Turf Trashers 1, Pumas 0: Renee Henriques, Lindsey Fuori and Sarah Stofco played well on defense to help the Turf Trashers win the game. Emma Iannini scored on a penalty kick and Emily Albrecht generated scoring opportunities. For the Pumas, Andrea Sayegh, Hayley Dunn and Mallory Reilly played aggressively on offense. Marysa Audet, Jennifer O’Grady and Alessandra Lalli were excellent at stopping the opponent’s runs and keeping the play in the opponents end of the field.

Thunderbolts 6, Vipers 3: Will Carr and Michael Senf both had two goals and Gavin Scallon and Mergim Bajraliu also scored in the win. Fredrik Dean, Colin Reilly and Blake Untiedt scored for the Vipers, with Niles Wilson playing great on defense and Dan Olszewski playing a strong all around game.

That Team 4, Turf Trashers 1: Laruen Sarna scored two goals and Aoife Flanagan and Lauren Meyer also scored. Lauren Meyer (2) and Maggie Kost had assists. Sarah Ficks, Christina Badiola and Jess Principi had strong games on offense. For the Turf Trashers, the only goal was scored by Emily Albrecht, with an assist by Emma Iannini. Samantha Chanko, Elizebeth Boedecker and Jane Sclafaini played well.

Blazing Monkeys 5, Turf Devils 1: Christina DeBartolomeo had two goals and Faith Pereira, Katie Laaksonen, and Marissa Thill also scored in the win. Briana Alves and Maren Brady were outstanding in goal. For the Turf Devils, Lucy Helgren played a great game on attack and created several scoring opportunities. Kat Jennings, Emily Campbell, Brittney Antous, Kendra Dunnigan and Marissa Liberante all showed a lot of energy in midfield.

U11 Girls

Lightning 2, Ridgefield 2:  Jessica Keller and Kailee Dunnigan scored for the Newtown Lightning. Dale Shearin and Helene Sorensen played well on defense and Megan Meyer was solid in the midfield. Kate Fallon and Emily Riley were tough in goal.

U10 Girls

Galaxy 2, Super Shooters 0: Ashley Marks scored on a penalty kick and Sierra Mather followed with another goal in the final minutes. Claire Boyle played an outstanding all-around game. For the Super Shooters, Danielle Agugliaro, Stephanie Haas,  and Courtney Datin played well on offense. Victoria Teixeira and Alexis Tucker played aggressively on defense and stopped numerous attacks on goal. Christina Cistulli had a goal for the Galaxy in the team’s first game, the week before.

Rockets 5, Bulldogs: 0: Jessie Coughlin, Brianna Baranowski, Caitlyn Linden and Katy Reilly scored. For the Bulldogs, Brianna Lutz was outstanding in defense. Sam Dion and Lizzie Wojcik played well in goal and Eliza Eggleston and Maddie Bridges had solid all around games.

Funky Monkeys 3, Torpedoes 0: The Monkeys were led by two goals from Lauren Beier and one from Victoria Kirkam. Bailey Smith played great defense and Margaret Elkins played a strong overall game. For the Torpedoes, Anna Pinckney, Olivia Hamula, Kayla Kordish and Sinead Flanagan had great games.

Newtown Comets 12,  Trumbull 0: Other than the hat-tricks contributed by Mikayla Kuligowski and Kelsey Muniz, the scoring was distributed among much of the team. Goals were also scored by Portia Baudisch, Kim Brello, Casey Harkins, Katie Mossbarger, Alana Murray and Haley Trudell. Assists were added by Brenna Kelly, Kuligowski, Muniz(2), and Alyssa Ruefenacht (2). Ruefenacht and Emily Charash split time in goal.

U8 Girls

Dynamites 5, Blue Champions 0: The Dynamites were led offensively by Ashley Santore with 3 goals and Sarah Houle with 2 goals. Defensively they were led by Jane Ricketts. The Blue Champions were led offensively by Cameo Delia, and defensively by Keira Veilette, while Lizzy Chamiec-Case had a great overall game.

Mustangs 3, Skunks 0: Camryn Cicarelli, Nevan Gattey and Amanda Wikramanayake scored and Alessandra Manfredi had an assist. For Skunks, Allie Paynter and Madison Findley were superb on offense and Caroline Condon and Lindsey Tienken stopped the opponents on defense.

Fighting Irish 5, Wolverines 3: Alexandra Manoni and Brianna Straiton scored, Sophia Albano played well on offense and Jeanyce Roth was strong in goal. The Wolverines were led by Katie Elkins, Mary Hufziger, Olivia Bellagamba and Kaysie Fisher.

Soccer Stars 2, Cheetahs 0: MaKenna Cerney scored two goals to lead the Soccer Stars. Julia Doyle, Maggie Beardsley and Anna Moscovici all played well for the Soccer Stars. Lauren Cirone and Isabella Jimenez played strong offensively for the Cheetahs and Audrey Sedensky and Jackie Gouveia anchored the defense for the Cheetahs.

Team (#10) 6, American Eagles 1: Samantha Crespo and Lauren Russo combined for six goals, and Haley Taylor and Sarah Brittin played outstanding all-around games in the win. Kira Smith scored on a breakaway for the hardworking Eagles, and Olivia Butler and Grace Sholtes led the team’s tireless defensive effort. Rachel Tomasino played a fantastic game in goal.

14U Boys

The Whatevers 3, The Fives 2 : Tyler Ruefenacht and Harry Solaski scored for the Fives and Joe Anastasi and Matt Barra played great in the midfield. Colin Cooper scored 3 goals for the Whatevers, Matt Wood played great in goal and George Ferris was solid on defense.

U11 Boys Travel

Newtown White Lightning 5, Norwalk CSC 0: Newtown, which has won two in a row at home and is tied for first division, were lead by Luca Imbimbo who had three assists, Clay Gattey who had two goals and Sawyer Conrad who had the shutout in goal. Michael Cook, Patrick Rowley and Graham Hubbert had goals. Kaj Djonne and Ryan King notched assists with great crosses. The midfield was powered by Jeremy Doski, Constant Gregoire and Micheal Biancardi. The defense was lead by Kevin Droniak, Nathyn Horvath, Knute Johnson and Dillon Wikramnanyake who shut down Norwalk.

U10 Boys

Stags 4, Team (#6) 2: Liam McNichols scored four goals assisted by James Barry, Kaustav Mitra, Chris Anesi and Connor Flint. For Team 6, Patrick Berger scored both goals. Daniel McCarthy played strong defense, Kevin Finnegan played well at midfield and Chris Blanco played well in goal.

Boys U8

The Firekickers 3, SuperChargers 2: Austin Engler scored twice and Aiden Ford added a goal in the win. Jack Dooley and Andrew Janco played well in the win. For the SuperChargers, Alex Hess scored twice and Thomas Leuci and Thomas Brisco played great games.

Bulldogs 3, Team USA 3: Evan Eggleston scored two goals and Shane Gattey scored one for the Bulldogs who also received great play from JT Lewis and Matthew Krasnickas. For Team USA, Matt Gerbo scored two goals and John Finnegan scored once. Robert DiSibio played well on defense.

Blue Barracudas 4, Blue Sharks 1: Graham Dowd scored two goals and John Luke Caplan and Mark Hall added goals in the win. Elliot Bennet protected the goal well in the win. For the Blue Sharks, Kyle Roche scored. Ian Schull and Drew Tienken played well on offense and Justin Cicarelli was strong on defense.

Glastonbury Tournament

The Newtown Strikers won four straight games in the 15th Annual Glastonbury Spring Warm-Up Tournament with wins over Rocky Hill (6-0), Glastonbury (7-1), Avon (3-1) and Fairfield (6-0). Cole Rogalin led all scorers for Newtown, behind a strong offense of Colin Patrick, Tyler Dullinger, Thomas Gavel and Alex Gerbo. The Strikers’ defense, allowing just two goals the entire tournament, was led by Jacob Ermis, Paul O’Leary, and Michael O’Keefe.
