Stephanie Fagan, the art director of Fine Gardening, published by The Taunton Press, visited with Hawley Elementary School kindergarten students on Friday, April 26.

In math/science specialist Jenna Connors’s room, the kindergarteners learned about the life cycle of plants, and planted their own seeds. Ms Fagan gave two presentations during the day.

Ms Fagan gave students the choice between planting sunflowers or peas. Before students planted their seeds, Ms Connors had students inspect the difference between the two types of seeds using their hand lenses.

Once Ms Fagan had walked students through planting their seeds, she explained they would then put them in plastic bags to simulate a green house environment. Once the plants sprout though, Ms Fagan told the students to remove their plants from the plastic bags.

Hawley Elementary School kindergartener Gracie Boyle holds up her planted seed on Friday, April 26, when Stephanie Fagan, the art director of Fine Gardening, published by The Taunton Press, visited with students in Hawley math/science specialist Jenna Connors’s classroom.
