Newtown High School junior Ridhi Sahani has collaborated with fellow dancers from Newtown, along with dancers from Monroe, to create “Spreading Smiles,” a special performance to be offered on Saturday, May 11, at the high school.

“My goal in putting together this performance is to bring comfort and happiness to people in our community,” Miss Sahani said via email to The Newtown Bee. “After all that we have been through, I want to spread smiles the way I know how to, through dance.

“I experience the joy of dance every day and it is my outlet for dealing with stress and emotions,” she continued. “As all dancers know, with every step, all of the worries and problems of life melt away. In organizing this show, I want others to feel this comfort that I am lucky to have in my life.

The performance will be in the auditorium of Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road. It will run from 5 to 7 pm. There is no charge to attend.

Miss Sahani will be joined by dancers from Connecticut Dance, Dance Etc, The Graceful Planet Moving Arts Center, The Gray School of Irish Dance, Monroe Dance Academy, and Newtown Centre of Classical Ballet.

“Our Newtown community is an extremely strong one that makes me proud. I want to give back to my town by honoring and remembering our angels with this performance,” she said.
