Flagpole Photographers Camera Club To Host Hands-On Photography Workshop Day
Flagpole Photographers Camera Club invites photography enthusiasts of all levels to elevate their skills at a hands-on Workshop Day on Saturday, May 3. The event will offer a unique opportunity to learn practical shooting and editing techniques while capturing the scenic beauty of historic Newtown and Sandy Hook alongside the club’s award-winning photographers.
The full-day workshop is designed for both beginners and experienced photographers, welcoming users of traditional cameras and smartphones alike. The day will begin at 8:50 am at The Pleasance, 1 Main Street. Following a brief Meet & Greet, the workshop will begin at 9 with outdoor sessions focusing on fundamental techniques such as achieving sharp photos, understanding composition through different angles and heights, and controlling depth of field using aperture.
Mid-morning, the workshop will move to Sandy Hook Center, meeting near 7 Glen Road, for sessions on creatively capturing motion using shutter speed, followed by a fun, guided photo “Treasure Hunt” challenge to put newly learned skills into practice.
After a lunch break (participants on their own), the afternoon session will convene indoors at 1 pm at Newtown Senior Center (8 Simpson Street, Room: Studio 1). That segment will focus on digital darkroom skills, featuring a photo review where instructors will demonstrate editing techniques for print and social media using participant photos.
The workshop will conclude at 2:30 pm.
The workshop will offer hands-on experience in beautiful local settings. Members will share practical tips for capturing better images and making them shine with basic editing, whether using a dedicated camera or a cell phone.
In case of inclement weather, the workshop will begin indoors at the senior center, with the outdoor activities replaced by indoor sessions.
The workshop is free for current Flagpole Photographer members. For non-members, the cost is $25, which includes a Flagpole Photographers membership valid through August 31, 2025.
Registration is required, and participants will need to provide their own lunch.
Interested individuals should register via flagpolephotographers.com/contact-us/, mentioning they are registering for the May workshop.
