Newtown Resident To Receive 2025 Heart Of Women Award
DANBURY — The Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce Women’s Business Council will celebrate Nicole Maddox as the 2025 Heart of Women Awardee, honoring her extraordinary leadership, advocacy, and commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in the Newtown community, during Conversations with Extraordinary Women.
This year’s event is planned for Wednesday, May 7, 5-8 pm, at Amber Room Colonnade, 1 Stacey Road in Danbury. The event offers an evening of networking, leadership panel discussion, and celebration in recognition of a Heart of Women Awardee and other local changemakers. The event will also include dinner and cocktails.
Also featured will be Loretta Claiborne, Special Olympics board vice chair and chief inspiration officer and a 2023 USA Today Woman of the Year; Devon Scanlon, owner of the Brookfield Chick-Fil-A franchise; and Anna Zap, co-host of The Anna and Raven Show on Star 99.9 FM.

A Newtown resident, Nicole Maddox joined Newtown Allies For Change in 2020. She was driven by her personal experiences with racial injustice and a deep love for her four children in deciding to become a member of the grassroots volunteer organization dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As vice chair, Maddox has helped lead and grow the organization, with NAFC’s online community now exceeding 1,200 members.
Maddox has been instrumental in mobilizing support for BIPOC individuals, especially students in Newtown Public Schools, and has become a powerful voice for change in the region.
Maddox embodies the spirit of the Heart of Women Award, inspiring others through both her grassroots advocacy and heartfelt commitment to her community.
Last year’s recipient was another Newtown resident, Families United in Newtown (FUN) Co-Founder and President Linda Jones.

The nominee must demonstrate the spirit of creativity, innovation, and initiative by responding in a proactive manner to an issue, concern, or event that affects the lives of others. Must have made a lasting difference in the lives of individuals of all abilities and backgrounds. Routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty. Actions reflect her passion and personal commitment of time, talent, or treasure on behalf of others. Demonstrates leadership in coordinating volunteer efforts of individuals or groups for fundraising, special events, programs, or services that benefit the community. Inspires others to get involved, take responsibility, or assume leadership to effect positive change.
