Newtown Earth Day Festival Was A Success
On Saturday, April 25, Newtown hosted its 17th Earth Day Festival. The primary mission of the Newtown Earth Day Festival is to foster education and drive awareness of environmental stewardship through project participation and collaboration with local associations.
The festival is held every April at Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street. The event is typically outside, but due to the weather, this year the committee moved all 35 vendors inside to the gymnasium. In addition to the several vendors, there were kids’ activities like face painting, "Imagination Creation with Recycled Cardboard Boxes," and "Learn How to Make a Meadow."
First Selectman Bruce Walczak offered opening remarks following the singing of the national anthem. Music was also provided by Newtown High School Jazz Ensemble, as well as The Barn Rats, Johnny Chapman, and Sundad.
Christine's Critters also made an appearance at the festival with its birds of prey demonstration. Christine Peyreigne is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, falconer, and veterinary technician, with a deep passion for birds of prey and a commitment to mitigating human impact on native wildlife. She brings her animal ambassadors with her to teach the public about the amazing creatures and how to help them thrive.
