CHRISTOPHER WINTER SHOW INAUGURATES NEUHOFF EDELMAN GALLERY IN NYC

avv/gs set 5-3 #698834

NEW YORK CITY — Neuhoff Edelman Gallery presents as its inaugural exhibition, “Songs of Innocence,” the second show of British-born, Berlin-based painter Christopher Winter on view to June 9.

Innocence, discovery and experience continue to be central themes in the artist’s work as adolescents are portrayed in the forest. The influence of film and photography has continued to grow in Winter’s work with many of the paintings cropped in a 16:9 format.

Children’s books as well as comic books, story boards and many other forms of media fill his work with a rich blend of influences. In this exhibition he will show paintings, watercolors and a Bavarian House installation. The watercolors, “Janet and John,” are based on children’s “readers” from the 1940s. Winter often adapts styles to fit a specific concept which he then develops to become his own.

Winter, 38, lives and works in Berlin and exhibits internationally. He graduated from the Camberwell School of Art in London in 1990 with a degree in painting and four years later moved to Mannheim as the recipient of a prestigious one-year residency.

The catalog for the exhibition includes an interview by Dr Benjamin Meyer-Krahmer, an art-critic based in Berlin.

Neuhoff Edelman Gallery is a new partnership between Heidi Neuhoff and Asher Edelman. The gallery program will feature emerging and mid-career artists, as well as historical exhibitions.

The gallery is at 41 East 57th Street. For more information, 212-838-1122 or www.neuhoffgallery.com.
