Robert James Sonntag

Robert James Sonntag, 88, longtime resident of Norwalk, died April 29 after a short illness. He was born March 9, 1928, in New Canaan, and was a son of Mary and William Sonntag.

Four children, Robert G. Sonntag, and his wife Lauren McCann Sonntag, of Sandy Hook, Margaret M. Sonntag of Hamden, Maureen R. Sonntag of Norwalk, and Michael T. Sonntag, and his wife Kristen Murphy Sonntag, of Newport Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Sean M. Sonntag, Christopher G. Sonntag, and Kevin M. Sonntag; his dear friend and companion Concetta Peters of Southport; and his many nieces and nephews survive Mr Sonntag. His beloved wife, Rose M. Sonntag; his parents; his sister Ruth Russo; and three brothers, William, Arthur, and John Sonntag, predeceased him.

He was a graduate of Wright Technical School and worked as a machinist, tool and die maker and model maker for Pitney Bowes, Inc, for 35 years in Stamford, Norwalk, and Shelton.

Mr Sonntag served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a life member of the New Canaan VFW Post 653 and a member of the Norwalk American Legion Post 12.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, May 4, at 10 am, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Westport. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan.
