5 – H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut will hold an Open House on Saturday, May 5, from 10 am to 3 pm, at its facility on 43 Wilbur Road in Washington. Luke, the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdale, will be on hand along with Frank Marlin & The Country Callers Band and The Mad Hatters. Pony rides for small children will be held from 1 to 3 pm. 6 – The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard will hold its annual Spring Judged Pleasure Ride on Sunday, May 6, 9 am to 12 pm, on its grounds at Fairfield Hills. 20 – The 4-H Spring Benefit Horse Show will be held Sunday, May 20, at the Cooperative Extension System grounds on Stony Hill Road in Bethel. The open schooling show will host divisions English Equitation, Hunt Seat, Western, and Trail. New this year is the Super Horse Division in the Western Ring and on the Hunt Course. Most classes will be pinned through sixth place with the first place winner also receiving a trophy. Divisions are awarded champion and reserve ribbons. Bit of Tack will also be awarding a special prize to all Division winners. The high point horse and rider combination from both the Spring Benefit and Fall Nutmeg shows will receive year end awards in several divisions.       Proof of a current rabies vaccination (within one year) will be checked at the gate for each animal.      Refreshments will be available on the grounds. 20 – The Woodbury Litchfield Hill Foxhounds Spring Trail ride will be held Sunday, May 20, at Anderson Farm, 25 Anderson Road, Morris. The ride features panoramic views, rolling farmlands, woodlands, meadows and streams with fences of post and rails, coops, stonewalls, gates and logs approximately 2’6’’ with a go-around at every fence. 28 – The Bedford Riding Lanes Association will hold its Memorial Day Country Pace & Luncheon on Monday, May 28, at the John Jay Homestead State Historic Site on Route 22 in Katonah, New York. There will be go-arounds at all fences. Negative Coggins tests and safety helmets are required. First team will be out at 7:30 am and last team will be out at 11:30 am. The Steak & Chicken Luncheon and BBQ will be from 12 noon to 2 pm with a raffle drawing at 1:30 pm. There will be ribbons for top 10 places in all divisions. Fee for pace and luncheon is $70 for BRLA members and $80 for non-members ($50 and $60, respectively, for junior members). Non-riders are welcome for lunch: $30 for adults and $20 for juniors.
