Newtown High School Announces Available Scholarships
The Career Center at Newtown High School presents the following list of national scholarships currently available for college-bound students. Please note that some scholarships may request money to be sent with the scholarship application.
The Career Center automatically advertises all scholarships received in the mail. To verify the legitimacy of the scholarship, the Career Center strongly suggests that potential applicants contact the FTC Consumer Response Center at 877-382-4357, www.ftc.gov., the National Fraud Information Center at 800-876-7060, www.fraud.org, or the Better Business Bureau at 703-276-0100, www.bbb.org.
Schubmehl-Prein Prize â This national essay contest is open to high school juniors in the top 20 percent of their class for the best analysis of the social impact of a particular aspect of computing technology. The first place award is $1,000 with the second and third place awards equal to $500 and $250, respectively. The topic for 2007 is, âWhat is needed to secure the software that controls our nationâs critical infrastructure?â Additional information is available from www.cse.nd.edu/EssayContest/. All entries are due by May 31.
Connecticut Power and Energy Society Scholarship Program â The Connecticut Power and Energy Society will award up to $10,000 in scholarships to deserving Connecticut students who show interest in the technical or engineering-related fields, with special consideration given to those students interested in energy industry-related study. High school seniors may apply on the basis that he or she will receive the award after the completion of the first semester of college with a GPA of 2.3 or higher. The Career Center has applications. An online application is available from www.ctpower.org. All applications are due by May 25.
Beta Theta Pi Scholarship â The Zeta Chi chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity at UConn, Storrs will award one $500 scholarship to a graduating senior boy who intents to attend the school. Applicants should demonstrate academic achievement and a commitment to making both the university and community better places to live also have the desire to develop skills that will help them to be successful in college and throughout their lives. The Career Center has applications or students may apply online at www.beta.uconn.edu. The deadline is June 1.Â
